Metal Stamping Calculators
Quick estimates for the numbers shops use when they quote a stamped part. Each calculator shows its formula, so you can check the shop's figure, not replace it.
The calculations behind a stamping quote
Four numbers explain most of a stamping quote. The calculators published so far are listed below the table.
| Calculation | Formula in short | What it tells a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Press tonnage | Cut length x thickness x shear strength, plus stripper and forming loads, plus margin | Which press class a part needs, why two shops quote different presses |
| Deep draw blank size | Blank diameter from cup diameter and height (constant surface area), then draw ratio per stage | How many draws a cup needs and how much strip it takes |
| Strip and material use | Part area divided by pitch x strip width | How much of the coil becomes scrap, and what the scrap is worth |
| Tooling break-even | Tooling cost divided by the piece price saving against the alternative route | At what annual volume a hard die pays back |
Estimates, not quotes
Every result here is a first estimate from typical values. Material strength varies by lot and temper, and each shop applies its own margins.
Use the result to ask better questions: which press the shop plans to use, which strength value it assumed and what margin it kept. The shop that quotes the part sets the real figure, and the material certificate of the lot decides the strength.
